On a misty day up in the Catskills I arrived to the Ashokan Center up in the woods of Olivebridge. As I pulled into the driveway there was a sign welcoming guests to the wedding and on the path behind the sign were a pair of deer crossing right as I photographed the sign- if that’s not a great way to start the day, I’m not sure what is.
The Ashokan Center has multiple buildings and lodges on the property including the Sycamore Lodge which is a small lodge filled with rooms with wooden bunk beds where A + M got ready as well as a blacksmithing space. Inside of the main lodge, there’s a ceremony hall where a few good friends of Allison’s who are set designers created a gold, shiny tinsel backdrop for the ceremony.
On the back deck of the Lodge we did a beautiful first look where Allison saw Matthew in his tan tux with eclectic tie and accessories and Matthew saw Allison’s beautiful peach and orange draped gown. I loved that instead of doing what most couples follow because of tradition, they did what felt right for them and captured their life and personality in all aspects of their day.
Allison’s step-mother officiated their ceremony which I thought was really special, but to top it off she came out behind the gold tinsel wearing white fairy wings because she had always worn them while Allison was growing up and she felt that she had to wear them during the ceremony. I must say that was a first for me.
The night ended with an amazing performance from Allison and Matthew’s friend’s band that performed songs like Monster Mash and ended the night with a surprise performance of Purple Rain by one of their incredibly talented friends who sounded just like Prince (might I say, if not better) and another friend that joined in playing the violin. It was an insanely epic way to end the night- I kind of forgot I was at a wedding and not a concert.
